I see others struggling constantly because a teacher has paraphrased an essential concept inefficiently, and I've observed that it is usually those same people who then go on to hate mathematics. They grow to see it as a mind-numbing barrage of monotonous, algorithmic operations instead of seeing it as shorthand for complex logic and fascinating ideas. I feel sad for these students because they never see the beauty of mathematics, they only see numbers. Ambiguous calculation becomes their interpretation of the applicable computation that is mathematics' true form. I want to change more than a struggling student's grade; I want to change their mindset, embedding in them a deeper appreciation for mathematics. That is why I want to tutor. I have not taken any tutoring classes and have no professional tutoring experience. I am a member of the NECC All-Academic team, meaning I am one of the top 25 students in Northeast Indiana. I was the top math student in the Prairie Heights graduating class of 2015. Self-taught programmer in High School.
